Finding a purebred American Cocker Spaniel puppy can feel like a big task. I know because I’ve been there. You want a healthy, happy puppy that fits well with your family. In Ontario, there are many options, but not all breeders are the same. I want to share what I’ve learned about locating trustworthy Ontario Cocker Spaniel breeders. This way, you can find a loving companion and support for years to come.

Why Choose A CKC registered breeder?

Choosing a reputable breeder. Unfortunatley many people dont understand the difference between breeders and are fooled with miss information. There are more breeders that dont provide CKC papers than there are that do. Why ? because they simply don't know the process of filling out the forms or they have a registered dog but they did not buy it with breeding rights but bred it anyway and do not have the legal right to provide you with the CKC papers. This is the truth in most cases or they just dont want the extra cost involved.

Countrydream focus on maintaining the breeds health and temperament. They follow strict CKC standards to produce puppies that are not only beautiful but also well-adjusted and healthy and conform to the CKC breed standards Including DNA and OFA tests for each parent . These tests help to lessen the chance greatly in producing genetic diseases that are common to the breed. Being licensed means that all my dogs vaccine records are sent in every year to qualify for inspection this is done because I need to have the correct building and acreage space to accommodate a kennel. Being inspected means that my dogs, kennels, and where they live, how and what I feed them are inspected by a live person coming to my kennel to make sure I follow all the guidelines set out by the SPCA, I must pass every year in order to be a licensed physicality.

A good breeder will:

  • Provide health clearances for parents and guarantees for puppy’s and include CKC papers and all vaccine documents up to date as well as feeding instructions and lifetime care.

  • Socialize puppies from an early age and provide new potential parents with all information needed including a free training booklet food coupons and more

  • Offer lifetime support to new owners

  • Give Match suggestions of puppies to homes that suit their new families

  • Offer ways you can visit in person or by way of video chat to see the puppies before your purchase.

This is why I recommend starting your search with breeders who are committed to these values and are CKC members as it show a commitment to the breed. It makes a huge difference in the puppy’s future and your peace of mind.

How to Find Reliable Ontario Cocker Spaniel Breeders

Finding a breeder you can trust takes some research. Here are some steps I found helpful:

  1. Check Breed Clubs and Associations

Breeds will be listed on the CKC website but still do your checking and ask questions.

  2. Visit Breeders in Person

If possible, visit the breeder’s facility. If you are living far away ask for a real time tour of where the puppies are raised and living. You can ask for a face time or messenger call etc. Seeing where the puppies are raised gives you a good idea of their care. Look for clean, safe environments and happy, healthy dogs ask about their socialization.

  3. Ask Questions

Don’t hesitate to ask about health testing, puppy socialization, and the breeder’s experience. A good breeder will be open and willing to share information and willing to answer all your questions the best they can.

  4. Read Reviews and Testimonials

Hearing from other puppy buyers can help you avoid scams or poor breeders. Look for consistent positive feedback. Good breeders will share emails where you can contact past puppy parents for references. Or check their google listing of their kennel and website to cross reference information.

  5. Be Patient

Sometimes, you may need to wait for the right litter. Responsible breeders don’t always have puppies available immediately. This patience pays off with a better match of what you want.

What to Expect When You Contact Ontario Cocker Spaniel Breeders

When I reached out to breeders, I noticed they often asked me questions too. This is a good sign. They want to make sure their puppies go to homes that fit their needs. Here’s what you might expect:

  • Questions about your lifestyle and experience with dogs

  • Discussion about how many hours you work outside the home and who will care for the puppy

  • Information on health guarantees and contracts

  • Invitations to visit or meet the puppies

This two-way communication helps build trust. It also ensures the puppy you choose will thrive in your home.

Tips for Bringing Your New Puppy Home

Once you find your puppy, the journey is just beginning. Here are some tips I found useful for a smooth transition:

  • Prepare Your Home

Set up a safe space with a bed, toys, and food bowls. Puppies need a calm area to adjust.

  • Schedule a Vet Visit

Early health checks are important. Your breeder should provide vaccination records and dates that his next vaccines will need to take place and information of what to avoid with preventives.

  • Start Training Early

Basic commands and house training help your puppy settle in. Positive reinforcement works best. Videos helps also help you get ready for puppies arrival.

  • Socialize Gradually

Introduce your puppy to new people and places slowly. This builds confidence. A good breeder will provide additions helps for you to take home and practice with your puppies social skills and training advise.

  • Stay in Touch with Your Breeder

Good breeders offer ongoing support. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or seek advice. Countrydream offer a full shopping page on the website called Cindy's recommended products. These are helpful products you may need to purchase for your new puppy or cocker spaniel. You will find all my top picks here for your cocker spaniel puppy or adult dog all the guess work taken out.
